I was hoping for some big changes in 2013 in my last New Year’s article and in my humble opinion we achieved just that ![:D]()
3DX animation has finally hit the Western entertainment radar and the eyes are lighting up in the porn world, even if it’s just a glimmer for now. But there’s more exciting developments to come.
Affect3D and 3DX in 2013
But first, 2013 in review for Affect3D. I’m going to blow our horn just a little and say that Affect3D’s made great progress with Girlfriends 4 Ever being a bigger success than anticipated and a wonderful new addition to the Affect3D family, the sexy Affect3D store. I see this as a vote of confidence by the 3DX fans, a vote in favor of quality and it’s certainly solidified my belief in the potential of 3DX.
Porn and quality don’t always see eye to eye and we here at Affect3D are trying to change that. But we understand that this is just a first step and that you want more high quality works, more animation and games and it’s our mission at Affect3D to bring you that talent and turn that little 3DX spark into a flame.
But change wasn’t only on the mind of Affect3D, Renderotica finally made the long awaited transition to a new site design and we think that after some teething problems the site’s done really well. Where some things changed others have stayed the same, Umemaro reliable as ever released a new title in the Omega series which surprised in some ways but as always brought the hot sex as expected. And again Japan delivered the new staple in animation just in before the end of year with Scourge of Evil by Ebimaru-Do and like last year’s front runner it was an exercise in depravity and extreme fetishes, but technically speaking in my opinion the masterpiece of 2013.
On the western front, we’ve seen lots of new artists releasing material which was awesome to see. Joining the likes of Blackadder, Epoch, Nova, Gazukull, Zzomp, Mongo Bongo and the very skilled 3DGspot we’ve had newcomers like HZR, Supro, Chinsen, 3DZen, Jarred999D, The Merovingian, Haneto, Eclesi4stik and many more release their first titles, testament to the growing 3DX scene (sorry to whom I’ve missed, I know there are many). Another interesting development this year was the, should I say, innovative use of Source Filmmaker like Fugtrup’s gif animations which made a splash on Tumblr.
But lets take a look at what the new year will bring.
Affect3D and 3DX in 2014
I can’t divulge much of what Affect3D will offer in terms of new releases, but as always we’ll try to innovate and improve the quality and presentation as best we can. The Girlfriends 4 Ever DLC is now the priority in terms of production.
So here’s my personal opinion on what’s coming to 3DX in 2014 and what I think will take 3DX to the next level.
Animation will develop and become more sophisticated. The biggest barriers are realism and long production cycles. We’ll start addressing these. By realism I don’t necessarily mean hyper real, 3dgspot in particular has shown that their Pixar cartoon formula works for 3DX just as well, as long as the motion is fluid and ideas are fresh. But I do think an equally strong approach is life like realism, bringing characters to life who look and behave like real humans. This bridges the gap between real porn and opens the doors to a world only limited by our collective imagination.
I also think we need to continue considering the team idea. The more powerful 3D software becomes the more the hobby 3D artist can achieve, but when we get to 3d animation, the vast array of talents required lends itself to teamwork and if the process doesn’t occur naturally we may have to think of ways to promote bringing talented people together like you currently see with indie game development. This will take some time, maybe years.
And finally I think we need to start spreading the good word about 3DX, there are far too many misconceptions surrounding porn which are easily refuted and explaining that 3DX is a healthy, natural expression of our sexuality, is paramount to gaining more mainstream acceptance.
2014 and beyond – 3DX the porn game changer?
So how can 3DX succeed where regular porn has failed? A number of things, but let me offer you just a couple of game changers, in my opinion.
Firstly, actors. Porn can not attract good actors, because good actors will choose mainstream as they don’t want to be judged by society. 3DX on the other hand can create life like characters with deep back stories who are immune to being judged and therefore can be completely inhibited, which is a must for believable characters. And that’s not even considering the fact that you can create characters appealing to any possible physical desires.
Secondly, games. There have been attempts at integrating real life footage into games, but the problem is this footage can not be renderered real time, so the options are limited. Looking at computer gaming, it’s not difficult to understand the potential. The vast majority are 3D engine based, because of the ability to interact and become part of a fictional fantasy world in real time. On top of that 3D vision, VR, interactive sex toys will all contribute to the success of this genre. We’ve already seen the beginning with titles like sex villa, 3DX chat and red light center but I think improvements must be made in terms of the graphics, characters, sex animation, immersive storylines and overall quality. I’m not saying this is an easy feat and it will take time, but let’s see if 2014 can steer us in the right direction.
