Epoch Week Part 2 – Ember Posing

It’s once again that season for self reflection and thinking about someone else. And what better way to do it than to continue our Feature Artist Week with Epoch? His Dossier sets and other work use his unique comic program display system. Epoch’s sets are story-oriented and focused. But best of all, they’ll never leave you disappointed.

Today is all about this lovely lady, Ember Riley. She’s a leading lady in the Dark Rift series and stills. She shines solo in Siren’s Song, alone on a deserted planet with a tentacled monster. And a siren’s song is right. Ember is a character where one picture is enough to get across her playfulness, sense of adventure, and love of herself. Not to mention that body is just made for sex.

img_1922

Ember poses for us at the edge of the galaxy at something a little less than military-issue uniform. Her arms brace above her and her breasts lift, inviting touch and emphasizing this character’s sense of friskiness and fun.

Ember is in a pose that’s seductive and exciting, but my favorite part about it is the curve in of her back. It invites someone to come up behind her and plunge themselves inside, her body already positioned to arch up in reaction and enjoy the ride.

You can see more of Ember by getting her solo Dossier series Siren’s Song Here!

Ready for more Epoch? Stay tuned for an Interview with the artist on Friday and his new dossier release, Grand Horizontal, starring Clara Ravens!

Marie Watches 3DX: Milky Girls Duo 2

Hi everyone! For my review this month I watched Milky Girls Duo 2. Let me go ahead and start by saying if you primarily read my reviews for titillation, this review will disappoint you. If you’re generally interested in my thoughts, however, there’s no shortage of those. Let’s get started!

Selection

Futanari autofellatio

The still images make it look better than it is.

I decided to review Milky Girls Duo 2 because the milk spray shown in the trailer caught my interest. Sure, it looked outrageous, but I have a fairly developed taste for fringe kinks. Plus, milk seems like it should go hand in hand with my taste for large breasts and breast expansion. The girls did seem a little muscular for me. But I figured I could handle it since the animation in the trailer seemed fluid.

The beginning of the bad

As soon as I unzipped the download file, I knew I’d made a mistake. There was no executable file, nor a master video, just several 1- to 3-minute clips in a folder. In 3DX, this always a bad sign. Hoping that the clips played in sequence, I opened up a playlist in VLC and settled in to watch these milky girls.

To my disappointment, the clips weren’t sequential, and many of them were nearly identical. The first four files, for example, recycle the same 1-minute animation, changing only the camera angle and the position of the girls. That doesn’t sound so bad, except there’s only two camera angles in all four clips, and both girls have the exact same body and face. So it’s not so much that they swap positions, rather they swap hair and skin color.

And it just gets worse

two futa girls

The milk streams are impressive, at least.

My general objective with these reviews is to authentically transcribe my experience watching 3DX. But I’m not sure that’s the best choice in this case. I didn’t orgasm, and hell, I didn’t even touch myself! I just sat on my bed sort of grimacing at what I watched.

It wasn’t even the content that turned me off. Two futa girls with massive tits and explosive, milky orgasms… I’m totally on board with that! What killed it for me was the stiff and awkward movements, the repetitive audio, and the nonsensical sequence of events. (The girls would often come in the first few seconds of a clip, then keep going for a minute, then orgasm again.) And then there were the bodies…Ugh.

The chief complaint

I mentioned the bodies in the trailer seemed a bit muscular for my tastes. But when you actually see the full clips you realize they’re much, much more masculine. I’m suspicious that the models used in these animations have a male base with tits, some hips, and a female head added. There are some angles where you’ll see one of the girls’ legs or back flexed and it really just looks like a dude.

Two futa girls

This animation is only four seconds long

Now, I don’t want it to seem like I’m trashing on anyone who is into this. If you like the character models in Milky Girls, that’s great, but it’s just not for me and it was a struggle to look past. In porn I prefer my men to be masculine, and my futa to be ultra feminine. I’m typically okay with more muscular women, but a muscular woman is still distinctly different than a man (unless she’s juicing). In the case of Milky Girls, it feels more like watching live-action shemale porn than futa.

Wrapping up

Overall I wouldn’t recommend this unless the character models really appeal to you, and even then I’d wait for a sale. Once you account for all the recycled animation, there’s probably less than four or five minutes of animation in the entire release. Not a great value for the price but if you want to check it out, you can find it at DLSite. Until Next time. ❤️

Continuing on with this week’s celebration of 3DX titan Epoch, we have yet another beautiful post for your eyes only. However, this image has a wicked, naked twin. The best part? This is just a tiny piece of Epoch’s impressive portfolio of animations, stills, comics, and even game themes. In any case, you’ll undoubtedly be familiar with at least one of the models below, be it through The Dossier Series or a multitude of MOTD posts.

gals_clothed

Ever felt intimidated or disarmed by a look? Well, I certainly was upon staring into the combined glare of Clara, Kendra, Samantha, and Polly. Even as I discovered their naked bodies, that burning stare continued to follow me. However, finally managing to tear my admiring gaze from the four goddesses, I couldn’t help noticing the context. It feels like we’re on the set of Taxi Driver; as though the air is buzzing with the clamor of New York’s streets. Not only this but the girls truly look at ease in their environment. Badass is almost an understatement – it’s as if they owned the place. In any case, Epoch’s angels certainly have the assets to conquer any city. So I urge you to take a good long look, 3DX fans, and revel in Epoch’s work as he continues to redefine the genre.

Epoch Week Part 4 – Clara Reclining

Time flies when you’re having fun, and who can argue against that point when they’re treated to a week’s worth of Epoch renders? Indeed, it’s already Friday, and with it the last day of Epoch Week. Before we serve you a final treat in the form of our interview with Epoch, we’ve got one more chance to put Clara Ravens on display.

clara_reclining

As a 3DX artist, I can attest to the challenge of realistically lighting indoor scenes. But damn, Epoch makes it look easy. Other than Clara herself, who’s masterfully rendered as usual, just take a look at the environment itself. You see a calm Sunday afternoon, a warm interior, and a perfect opportunity to unwind on that couch next to our heroine. Maybe treat her to some kissing and licking, take that frown off her face? It doesn’t always happen that a 3D render feels so inviting. But then, there’s a reason we chose to feature this artist.

Stay tuned for our interview with Epoch later today to wrap up our feature week. Also, check out Dossier Files #12: Grand Horizontal tomorrow at our store!

In the meanwhile, check out Epoch on DeviantArt, his personal site, or right here in the Affect3D Store!

Feature Artist – Epoch

Hello dear Affect3D readers!

Today marks the end of our Epoch week, and what better way to conclude it than with an exclusive interview!
Epoch tells about himself, his products and his experiences as an artist! Without further ado, let’s jump right to it!

image-for-part-1

All of our readers and customers probably already know you from, among others, The Dossier Series. But let’s still start of with the basics:

Please tell us a little something about yourself! Who are you and what do you do outside of 3DX?

Hey guys, thanks so much for featuring me again! I go by the name Epoch and I live in beautiful San Diego, California. Outside of making computer generated erotica, I like playing guitar, video games, charcoal drawing, cooking, going to the movies, drinking whiskey and wine, visiting wineries with my lovely girlfriend, and hanging out with friends. Making computer generated erotica has been my full-time job since 2012, so if you were curious what my “real” job is… this is it.

In 2011 and 2012 we were also lucky and got an interview with you. Even though we already discussed this back then, perhaps you can still give a little insight into your journey towards becoming a 3DX artist for new readers.

How did you get started in art? And how did that lead into creating 3DX?

I have a pretty solid background in traditional art. From a young age, I always loved art and especially enjoyed drawing. When I was in 4th grade I would steal Xerox paper from my teacher’s desk, cut the sheets into little rectangles, staple them together into little booklets, and draw comics. I would then duplicate the comic several times over, and sell them to my classmates for a nickel. Eventually, my teacher made me stop selling them but she did allow me to illustrate all of our lessons on the Revolutionary War and then she posted them on the wall in the classroom. I also remember in 5th grade I won an art contest and my colored pencil drawing of an astronaut standing on Neptune was displayed with other students work at a local museum.

As I got older I kept drawing, and when I got to college I chose film/video production as my major and took courses in directing, cinematography, screenwriting, et al. I also took lots of other art courses: photography, human figure drawing, dynamic anatomy, clothed figure drawing, chiaroscuro, painting (both traditional water color and gouache), color theory, and art history.

It was around 2002 that I first discovered the 3D software Poser (I got started in Poser 4 with Victoria 2 and Michael 2) and began playing around with it. At the time, it was just for fun, but I was learning 3D fundamentals and posting my works up for critique at Renderosity , RuntimeDNA, and Renderotica. I made some faux comic pages just for fun, posted them at Renderotica, and was approached by the Content Manager at CrazyXXX3DWorld offering me a contract artist position. I declined at first, but after nearly a year I came around and took him up on his offer. That’s when I created my first erotic CG comic, Freehope, back in November of 2006. That was the beginning of my journey that led me to where I am today.

Since we’re already on the subject of 3DX, I would like to talk a bit more about some of your products! When looking at all of your works it seems you’ve really created, I quote, ‘an Epoch art universe’. You’ve released several story-driven comics consisting of multiple episodes. And besides that you’ve also created sets under the name of ‘The Dossier Series’.

Could you tell us some more about these comics and image sets? What’s the biggest difference between these two?

Ember Riley from Dark Rift

Ember Riley from Dark Rift

The Dossier Series was created as a response to fans who were asking for more frequent releases and more sexual content. I approach my comics as a writer first, and pornographer second. This is the space in which I work. I’m trying my best to realize a universe of rich worlds and fully fleshed out characters. And I have a large fan base that is invested in this universe I’m creating across my various IPs. But creating full-length comics is incredibly time consuming, so The Dossier Series was created to satisfy the fans desire for more sex and faster releases. However, I wasn’t interested in creating simple image sets with random lifeless characters based around a simple contrived premise. So the characters and the visual narratives in The Dossier Series tie into their respective comic universe (Freehope, Clara Ravens, or Dark Rift) and are considered canonical. That way, I cater to both of my fan types: the ones who enjoy the story and characters, and the ones who just want porn.

But if you want to be reductive, the simple answer is that the comics are much longer, use word balloons to push the narrative forward, contain animation, audio score/sound effects, and bonus features such as character bios, 3D turntables, and desktop wallpapers. The dossiers rely on visual storytelling to push the narrative forward (no word balloons), and contain no bonus features. But they are much less time consuming to make and come out more frequently than the comics.

While some sets are more story driven than others, they all feel like a lot of thought has been given to them. Especially when looking at the setting. Is there a special reason for this? And how do you come up with all these different and original settings?

World-building is incredibly important to me. My favorite part, next to storytelling, is set-building. I love making my worlds feel truly lived in. I can happily spend weeks building the sets and getting the lighting just right. The setting does so much to evoke the mood of the overall piece, so nailing that is crucial. A lot of artists just go with an ‘out of the box’ set and simple high-key lighting approach, which is fine, but to make your work evocative you have to give everything that extra layer of detail. Put simply, the more time spent on set building and lighting, the more the reader will feel immersed.

I enjoy the dossiers as an opportunity to explore character’s backstory, and set up future events in the full-length comics. When coming up with ideas, my assistant Xipomus (the dude is world-class awesome and he deserves a shout-out for being with me every day on this journey for around five years at this point) and I will kick around concepts as they relate to my characters’ pasts, and come up with something that will work canonically and also be erotic and entertaining. We also strive to come up with something unique each release to keep things fresh and new, as resting on your laurels is the quickest way to become irrelevant. Lastly, we take the desires of the fan majority into consideration to keep them happy and engaged. It’s a juggling act to be sure, and makes the conceptual phase take a while, but it’s all worth it seeing the fan reaction at project’s end.

Looking at your website, I couldn’t help but notice that you have given the main characters of your stories a real personality and detailed backgrounds. Could you perhaps introduce us to some of the characters and their stories? You once mentioned Kendra is your favorite, is she still?

Well, the story of Freehope began as a sort of a Bible Black concept, featuring a girl named Kendra Blake who is sent to a female detention facility resting in the quiet Mount Freehope. The story starts to get sinister as Kendra looks to escape and accidentally sees something horrific. She acquires a magical book that starts unraveling her reality.

Clara Ravens is the protagonist of my series Clara Ravens, who was based on Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider video game franchise. She’s developed quite a lot beyond that, however, and while I’ve borrowed a lot of core elements of the original series, it has slowly adapted over time and has pushed farther away from her genesis. But essentially, she is a wealthy British treasure hunter who takes jobs to find mystical relics for a fee. Yeah, okay, so the apple didn’t fall THAT far from the tree!

Kendra Blake from Freehope

Kendra Blake from Freehope

Then there’s Dark Rift, my newest IP, which was inspired by the Mass Effect and Dead Space video game franchises as well as the television show Firefly and its movie sequel Serenity. This is my favorite right now, and I have big plans for all of the characters. This science fiction comic will be quite the saga, as all of the characters storylines will be interwoven, and the core cast will be quite large. The story is of a soldier named Kole who lost his wife and daughter at the ineptitude of the military he served, so he abandons the military and becomes a fugitive. This comic features a few female protagonists, namely Polly “Pixie” Talbish, Callisto “Callie” Salehi, Ember Riley, Sierra (an android Kole created as a surrogate for his dead wife), and Fyra Leighton. To date, only Polly, Sierra, and Fyra have appeared in the Dark Rift comic. The rest have been featured in dossiers, but they will eventually be in the comic itself.

I also have another IP called Breaking Point featuring an FBI detective named Samantha Radisson who is looking for her missing sister. It’s got elements of Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut in its premise. On her journey, she discovers that her sister is part of some underground sex cult and is in serious danger. This will be a mini-series of only three parts. Right now only part one has been completed.

Regarding a favorite character, it’s really hard to say. Kendra will always have a soft spot in my heart, as she was written first (again, this is way back in 2006), but even with six episodes of Freehope under my belt, I still feel that subsequent characters have been fleshed out more in the comics to date. Truthfully, the early Freehope story was a little one-note, but Kendra’s core personality was fleshed out (driven, erudite, melancholy, brave). I’ve learned a lot since then, and my two semesters of screenwriting have helped immensely. My narratives and characters have gotten much more complex, and I feel Polly and Kole from Dark Rift are two of the most complex I’ve written since I started. Going back and reading my oldest comics, I cringe a bit at the stilted dialogue and obvious exposition, but I feel I’ve improved so that episodes going foward will hopefully keep the reader engaged and rooting for their favorite characters.

So it seems you have created many IPs, each consisting of several chapters. But how come we haven’t seen the full stories of some of them?

All content prior to Clara Ravens Episode 3 Epilogue: Homeward Bound was created when I was working as a contract artist for CrazyXXX3DWorld. I started with them in 2006, and while there put out a sizable body of work: Episodes 1-6 of Freehope, episodes 1-3 of Clara Ravens, episode 1 of Breaking Point, and one-offs Tryst and The Trainer. The contract stipulations were that they paid me a set dollar amount per finished page and that was it. They then owned the comic outright. I was entitled to no residuals in website subscriptions, no bonuses, no nothing. For years I was content with my rate per page increasing steadily with each comic I sold them, but eventually they started seeing declining sales and they branched out.

As I was browsing DLsite.com one day (a Japanese doujin and hentai site), I was floored when I saw all of my comics for sale there. I was furious, so I asked the Content Manager at CrazyXXX3DWorld what the deal was. I was told in no uncertain terms that it’s “none of my business.” Apparently the owner of CrazyXXX3DWorld decided to try and supplement his business model by selling contract artists’ artwork in other markets. At that point, I decided to finish the set I was doing for them and move on.

I asked if I could buy back all of my body of work, but the owner refused. I had thought of redoing sort of what you’d call “HD remasters” of the most popular original comics, as I only sold them the artwork; the stories, characters, sets, etc. are all still mine. I have all the scenes and sets saves in a format where I could go back, re-texture, re-light, and redo the aspect ratio (for some bizarre reason, they wanted all artwork rendered to an aspect ratio that literally no monitor whatsoever uses). That way, even though the story is the same, it is new artwork and therefore doesn’t violate the original contract. It would be fun to revisit all those sets and redo the original comics, but those sets are so old at this point that they’ve been already pirated into oblivion. And even the remasters would be a lot of work. I’d much rather just make new artwork.

So, all of my oldest body of work is available for sale exclusively at CrazyXXX3DWorld. Feel free to check them out there if you want. If you do though, use this link HERE if you don’t mind, as that is an affiliate link and it helps me at least get a few bucks off the sale.

image-part-2

All of your comics can be read with the Epoch Art Dynamic Comic Viewer. Where did you get the idea of creating this special comic viewer? And was it difficult to create?

I can’t remember if I knew at the time that motion comics existed or not, but either way there wasn’t any motion comic creator available, so we created our own. A long time ago, I had done some commissions and a fan of the site who was a hobbyist software developer built me an image player in Flash so fans could bundle up the commissions and play them in a viewer. Years later, when I came up with the concept for the DCV, I asked this same developer if he’d be interested in building the DCV if I paid him for the work. He agreed and we worked closely together to build the first Dynamc Comic Viewer. Clara Ravens Episode 3 Epilogue: Homeward Bound is the first DCV-enabled comic I made, and it was mostly a proof of concept for the capabilities of the DCV. Since then, we’ve iterated on the software several times, adding new features along the way. It’s as feature-rich as I’d like it to be at this time, but I’m always thinking of ways to expand its functionality to make the DCV experience even better. If anyone has ideas, please let me know!

Could you tell us something about the process that goes into your works of art? What are your tools of the trade?

I feel like a fossil anymore, but I am still using Poser Pro Game Dev (an offshoot of Poser Pro 2014/Poser Pro 10) for all of my staging/setup/animation. I didn’t upgrade to Poser Pro 11 because I’ve heard nothing but complaints about it’s shortcomings. Poser Pro 11 does all I need it to, and what it can’t, I do with other softwares.

Clara Ravens in Lingerie

Clara Ravens in Lingerie

I use Maya 2011 for anything I need to model or to quickly construct/deconstruct other 3D models/sets. I also do all my cloth sims in Maya because Poser fucking sucks at it.

I use Zbrush for serious sculpts that require fixing beyond the capabilities of Poser’s morph brush. Zbrush has become essential for clothes fitting as the years have gone by, considering I’m still using Victoria 4 with the alternate weight mapping done by PoserPlace years ago, and the market still producing content for V4 is drying up. Most of my peers who had been working in Poser have jumped ship for Daz Studio. There’s still a lone few holdouts, but I think the writing is on the wall at this point. If I don’t switch soon, there’s a possibility that my work could be come irrelevant as Daz3D has made incredible strides with their organic meshes and their subdivision capabilities. And the talent of many of the content creators they have brought on board to make clothing and accessories is mindblowing. Truly, the only thing I’m really drooling over is these newest organic meshes and their clothing models. I don’t mind modeling my own sets, and I can still export from Daz Studio in FBX format static meshes that are usable in Poser. But sooner or later, I will need to switch, so I’ll be looking into training up on that software soon. So I guess congrats to you, Daz3D. You’ve ruined freedom of choice with your proprietary nonsense.

For postwork I use Adobe Photoshop CC 2015. I have a giant collection of desktop publishing fonts I use for creating logos for the comics and dossiers, and an even larger collection of brushes. I have a large collection of plugins of all types, from filters to effects to 3D magazine cover generators. I also have subscriptions to 3d.sk (for skin texture resources), vectorstock (for vector art resources), and Envato (for audio, vector art, After Effects templates, website plugins… they have it all).

Apart from all the technical talk, I was wondering: what do you enjoy the most about creating these comics?

When working on comics specifically, the writing is easily my favorite part of the process. I love to develop the narrative and write the dialogue, then refine it over several drafts. In screenwriting, they teach you how hard dialogue is to make authentic-sounding, because people tend to not talk the way it’s easiest to write. So I usually spend a long time tweaking dialogue until I can speak it out loud and make it sound genuine. And putting characters’ personalities in their dialogue is tricky. I’m an American, so when I write Clara (a Brit), I write her dialogue out first, then go over it all with a British slang dictionary to make it more idiomatic. I also consult with British fans to make sure the slang is current, so she’s not using some outdated slang from the ’60s or something. When I write for Flip, Clara’s sidekick, I tend to use apostrophes for words ending in ‘ing’ to show his ‘street slang’ so to speak (pun intended).

Next to writing the story, the set building is my favorite part. Once I’m out of pre-production on a project, believe it or not but the actual production is my least favorite part. While I do enjoy the challenge of matching the speaking character’s dialogue with their emoting, the tedium of posing and reposing, then fixing pokethrough on clothing and other fixes on the fly…all of that is so boring to me. Regardless, I do my best to give every area 100% because I won’t be satisfied otherwise.

image-part-3

As mentioned before, the last time we had an interview with you was about 4 years ago. How do you feel looking back at your career? Any big differences between then and now? What are some of your biggest achievements?

It’s been a learning experience for sure. I’ve gotten way better at writing characters and narrative, become proficient with all manner of 3D suites, and somehow garnered a huge fanbase simply by doing what I love. I’d say my biggest achievement was starting my company in 2012, and nervously taking the plunge into CG erotica full-time. I also rank Clara Ravens Episode 3 (a four-part monstrosity that would be the last piece of content I created for CrazyXXX3DWorld) as one of my biggest achievements. That is some of my best artwork in my opinion, despite it being rendered in Poser’s Firefly engine. It is also some of my favorite writing. Jack and Clara’s back-and-forth dialogue, from their snide banter in the market, to Clara’s warming a bit to Jack in the restaurant, to their drunken pillow talk and heartfelt admissions in the bedroom…I love it all and am very proud of it.

But my favorite piece of anything I’ve done is Dark Rift Episode 1: Resurrection. That one story is stuffed to the gills with the inklings of SEVEN plot throughlines. I also really enjoy the meet-cute I wrote for Kole and Polly. And I’m really proud of that artwork too, despite it also being rendered in Poser’s Firefly. Kole’s space walk is my favorite scene in the whole comic. My goal was to make the emptiness visceral, and I think I accomplished that.

Overall, looking back, I am proud of my body of work…I just wish it was larger! So many stories yet to tell!

Over the years not only you as an artist, but also the world of 3DX itself has grown and gone through changes. How do you think 3DX will develop in the future? (For example with the growing interest in Virtual Reality)

clararavens40I don’t really know anymore to be honest. I still kind of think that this niche market is heading for a crash, similar to the video game crash back in the 1980s. Daz3D is making every effort to create an ecosystem where they are essentially touting a “make art” button. They have created a software, content library (of proprietary meshes), and tutorial empire locking users into their suite… and making it incredibly easy to buy more of their products. The simplicity they sell has caused a deluge of hundreds of new artists who see CG erotica as a way to make a quick buck. They are the #1 reason that more and more people are knocking at the doors of the CG erotica storefronts trying to sell their half-baked image sets when they don’t understand focal length, framing, or depth of field in image composition. They are the #1 reason people are labeling themselves as “3D artists” on their deviantART pages, when most couldn’t tell you what a normal is or why it’s important in 3D. They are the #1 reason these “3D artists” make the “no postwork” proclamation, as if that is something that should be bragged about.

Also, crowd-funding websites like Patreon have given artists the opportunity to double dip, splitting their userbase, and disenfranchising their fans. Not to mention the ability it has given wannabe game developers to Frankenstein their 3D works onto traditional 2D game engines like all the RPG Maker games generating thousands of dollars a month for a product that will sit in perpetual alpha before the creator eventually gets bored, cuts tail and runs.

I feel that, as the market continues to flood with also-rans, saturation point will get so that it will be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. Buyers will be forced to make difficult decisions, and overall the artists’ profits will dwindle, perhaps forcing many into retirement (it has happened for a few already, but that was also due in large part to the financial and emotional toll piracy has on a content creator).

So I guess I can’t say for certain what the future holds, but I tend to be more pessimistic. Perhaps VR will make something revolutionary that creates a new essential CG erotica experience. I can’t say. But VR has it’s own strides to make first simply getting out into the hands of users. That’s going to take some time.

And what about yourself? Any big plans for the future?

I honestly just want to continue to make comics and tell stories. Perhaps if inspiration strikes along the way for a revolutionary new idea for the Dynamic Comic Viewer, we will iterate and expand on the overall DCV experience. But I have humble goals. I am happy with where I am, and thankful that I get to do what I do.

In some of your comics you use short looped animations, which can be viewed with the dynamic comic viewer. Would you consider making any fully animated products in the future?

I don’t think I’ll be making any fully animated comics in the future. Animation is not something I enjoy (and frankly I don’t feel I’m very good at it). The work is time consuming, tedious, frustrating, and hard as hell to get to look right because of the uncanny valley. And because I want to reduce the time between comic releases, I already made the call prior to Clara Ravens Episode 4: Colombina’s Illusion that I am going to be outsourcing all of my animation moving forward. The animation work in Colombina’s Illusion was outsourced to a talented animator who goes by the name Chimera46. You may know him from his Busty Elves in Peril series. He’s very good at what he does, so search his name on deviantART or the Renderotica gallery if you wanna see some of his awesome animations.

And lastly, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Yes, queue the sappy music please…

I want to congratulate everyone on staff, especially Miro (who I actually talked to on the phone once a long time ago when discussing the future of this industry) and Supro, for creating an amazing e-zine and storefront for this little porn niche we work in. I still remember the nascent days of Affect3D, when Miro was trying to get traction for his 3D gals over at HongFire. And I still remember seeing Blackadder’s first image set pop up in the Renderotica marketplace, when I was working as a contract artist for a subscription site, and I thought, “Wait, I don’t need to sell to a sub site? I can be my own creator?” The a la carte model proved to be lucrative, and kudos to those with the foresight to steer our niche in that direction. We’ve all come a long way since those days.

promo4I also want to thank my team: Xipomus, who runs nearly every facet of my operation so I can focus on the art. He also keeps me sane because I am prone to losing my shit on a regular basis. I swear I should have a plaque over my desk that reads “MURPHY’S LAW – DEAL WITH IT”. I also want to thank Shift64 for creating the Dynamic Comic Viewer, and for offering to work in a quid pro quo fashion for DCV updates. You’ve saved me lots of money! And lastly, I want to thank my Lead Copyright Agent (let’s just call him “K”), who works from the shadows with a voracious appetite for justice. As anyone who does this job knows, fighting piracy of your own content is demoralizing, deflating, and anxiety-inducing. Having someone so good at it tackle it for me has been a boon for my overall mental health. You guys all kick major fucking ass.

I also want to thank my dearest artist friends who I talk to regularly (and in some cases not so regularly, but they are still people whom I hold in great respect): Erogenesis, Gazukull, DeTomasso, RedRobot3D, chimera46, hibbli3D, dezmondel from the Stone Sorceress crew, EhJay from Renderotica, MongoBongo, Laticis, Blackadder… there’s probably more I’m forgetting so I apologize if I forgot you hit me up on Skype and yell at me.

And last but not least, I want to thank my fans. I’ve said it before, but I honestly think I hit the jackpot with my fans. I have the most caring, thoughtful, articulate, and passionate fans anyone could have asked for. I seriously don’t know what I did to deserve that. In a world of shitposting trolls, I have a thriving community of incredible people who are brilliant and treat each other with respect and compassion. They offer up critique and constructive criticism so thoughtfully that I can’t help but be moved by it. Nothing gives me more joy than reading excited comments left in response to a product they’ve enjoyed. Even the negative critique, when given constructively, is appreciated and taken to heart. I aim to satisfy them because they are my lifeblood, and I want them to know how much they mean to me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Unfinished Business

It stars Laura Cruz, his rendition of Lara Croft, who has a bone to pick with a shady company that hacked her computer for the sake of “getting her attention” to employ her as an asset for their excursion. Naturally, she declines only to be subdued by the nefarious Julia Nox and her assistant Nina, who relocate Laura to a “negotiation room” to discuss their terms in greater detail. Laura tries to resist temptation, but even the most resolved adventurer has her limits. DeTomasso delights readers with a kinky threesome involving two futas and one woman in a nonstop femdom fuckfest. To top it all off, it has gorgeous imagery.

Hey guys, we’ve got another part of the Affect3D video tutorial series for you! This month we’re going to take a look at how to clothe our G3 ladies, and make them wear items for different body parts. Clothing for G3 comes in two variables: with, or without mesh smoothing. So in this video we’ll also take a look at what exactly that function does. We’ll also see how mesh smoothing helps you achieve a realistic clothing effect more easily.

Also, don’t forget to check out our recent artist guide! There, we talk about the difference between dynamic and conforming clothing.

Next month we’ll take our posed and clothed girl, and put some lights on her for a proper portrait shot, and an introduction to lighting!

Check out our 3DX Artist Resource to learn more on how to become a great 3DX artist!

California Proposition 60 – An Incomplete Effort

$

Consumers want to have their sexual fantasies without worrying about all the risky realities of unprotected sex. This fantasy mindset applies to visual art, erotic fiction, and performance. Reality is often unpleasant, and porn is a magical realm of escapism and gratification. Impregnation risk fetish is usually the only time lack of protection is specifically called out.

In a new move to waste money regulating issues that have already been addressed, California has introduced Proposition 60, known by most as the condoms in porn law. This previously appeared as Measure B in Los Angeles County in 2012. This proposition would make the use of condoms for scenes of vaginal or anal penetration mandatory, as well as require producers to cover the costs of performers health screenings and vaccinations. There are good intentions in this proposition, but they are overshadowed by incomplete considerations for the issues it intends to resolve.

Note the uneven application. Also, why is that guy on the left not aroused?

Note the uneven application. Also, why is that guy on the left not aroused?

Unfair prosecution will fall upon monogamous amateur couples under this law. If the couple is faithful, they have no risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Therein lies significant lack of consideration in this legislation for a distinction between professionals and hobbyist performer/producers.

Additionally, creampie finishes could not be filmed in California under this law, which is a shame. The creampie money shot appears to have strong appeal for both heterosexual men and women, for reasons that should be instinctively obvious. That “filmed in California” part is important. Since this is California legislation, it can only effect California law. Producers outside of California need only be in compliance with the law relevant to their location. Not to mention current producers in California would simply move.

Noble causes mask shady power plays

California’s labyrinthine bureaucracy doesn’t need more wasteful expenses either. Paying retirement for state employees was already an issue in California years ago. This legislation would create a position for a compliance officer to review material for violations. Essentially, Michael Weinstein, the head organizer of this proposition, gets a cushy job watching porn all day at taxpayer expense. Accessing porn on a company computer leads to termination in any traditional office environment. Naturally, the nonprofit AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Mr. Weinstein’s organization, is the only donor supporting to legislation.

There are some good intentions behind this legislation though. As the employer, the film studios should be providing adequate risk mitigation for health concerns. There is no difference between this and requiring industrial facilities to provide personal protective equipment such as eye and ear protection. However, this proposal does not evenly apply safety measures. While the condom mandate would provide protection for heterosexual and gay male scenes, there would be no safety measure beyond the health screening for actresses performing a lesbian scene.

Lesbians lose in heteronormative legislation

Regarding lesbian sex, it seems the risk of transmission for the big demon of STDs, HIV, is significantly lower. But this could be due to a lack of data rather than a lower risk. Regardless, many performers do scenes with both men and women, so the risk not reduced. Also, since the legislature only mandates condoms for penetrative vaginal or anal sex, facial ejaculation and blowjobs are still a major risk. Ultimately, it seems that any of the attempts to reduce risk will largely be ineffective in the current language. Too much is overlooked. The assumption of bisexual performance does nothing to protect exclusively lesbian actresses.

No protection for woman to woman sexual contact.

No protection for woman to woman sexual contact.

However, it is important to note that there are adult performers on both sides of this legislation. Not all companies are equal in their care for their employees, and like any industry, porn studios are likely to try to ignore risks in favor or productivity. This is an area where California does deserve some credit. California law does more for worker rights than many other states in the US. There is more to do to properly protect employees, though, given this is the US we’re talking about. I’m not here to propose effective solutions, since I don’t have the industry experience to do so. Respect and honesty from all involved parties, as well as a control factor, are clearly needed.

What does this mean for 3DX?

Absolutely nothing. Art is invincible. Forcing Sayako to wear a condom won’t happen anytime soon. Though futas inflating condoms like jizz-filled water balloons is a thing, so maybe she’ll wear one voluntarily.

Think you can do better, Sayako?

When A Futa Is Not A Futa

$

Here’s a sadly common thing I see, especially on Hentai Foundry: A decent, well crafted image of a lady fucking another girl using her dick. The artist’s tags mention futa and futanari are in place. There’s just one problem: The girl with the dick doesn’t have a pussy. In other words, she’s not a futanari. She’s, for lack of a better term at the better term for the moment, a shemale.

You might not think much of the term, but there’s a very specific definition to futanari. However, it gets ignored frequently by many artists with regularity for the sake of “sales” or “traffic.” Such things dilute what it means, and can make customers believe that any girl with a dick is a futa, which limits what future artists can do creatively.

Recently, Marie Fasolt pointed out that our mascot futanari Sayako’s pussy needs some quality fucking, possibly from Tara growing her own dick as shown above (one can dream). Most artists who use the term “futa” wouldn’t even consider that a possibility, because they don’t make futas. It’s time to set the record straight on the term, and where to go from here.

But What Is A Futa?

The girls on the middle and right are futanari. The girl on the left is just a girl...for now 😛

The girls on the middle and right are futanari. The girl on the left is just a girl…for now 😛

It’s time for a Vox-level explainer, only without the stuck-up attitude that comes with it. Futanari, in kana ふたなり, literally translates to “two kinds” or “two forms.” Applying this on a sexual level, the closest equivalent translation is hermaphrodite – a term that comes from a Greek god who fused with a female water nymph and liked the results. In ancient and medieval times, when Japanese culture wasn’t influenced by Jewish/Christian/Islamic gender binaries, the term more broadly encompassed androgyny. There was a lot of folklore related to the term, such as the belief that certain people could change their gender at the half-moon – not unlike werewolves at a full moon but with a lot less fur and silly furry ideas.

Modern terminology of futanari applied the hermaphrodite idea in a way that was unique and specific. It now means a complete female who also possesses a dick. The complete and also is what makes it specific, for they are still hermaphrodites. I mean, it’s in the name: They have two forms, i.e. two sets of genitals!

Now, there’s definitely some room to question why the modern term came to be. As dezmondel of the famous Stone Sorceress series once asked me, why aren’t guys with vaginas as common? But the point here is futanari are hermaphrodites, pure and simple.

So why do artists screw up on such a simple concept and use futanari to describe women who aren’t that?

Shemales and Excess Baggage

smerinka-460714-aunt_nino

Auntie Nino, like many of Smerinka’s girls with dicks, is not a futanari.

Arguably, the common refrain I hear from artists who get called out on what seems to be semantics is “that’s what the fans want,” and I shouldn’t complain. But is that what the fans really want, that they’re that dick-obsessed? Or are artists just uncomfortable with using the term “shemale?”

If the latter, it wouldn’t exactly be a surprise. Our culture now obsesses over individual identity and creating a politics around it. Thus the term shemale – which usually means a pre-op trans woman – is now as loaded as Sayako would be if she avoided sexual contact for about a month. What was once the best option to describe women with dicks in real life is now borderline transphobic.

tumblr_m0jexz0btk1qkpa64o1_400

Girls! Learn to grow your dicks the Bible Black way! Guaranteed to keep your pussy, or your money back! 😉

Moreover, fiction eschews the biological realities often associated with a person’s sex. While shemales have a specific look to them, the women with dicks (but not pussies) in 3DX and 2D/hentai porn still appear visually female. It’s essentially as if all that happened to the woman as her genitals. Or, it may be a woman who is able turn her clit into a dick while closing up her labia and vagina (which sounds painful), because the latter for some reason is necessary.

(This opens up the question of why it’s necessary to remove the vagina from the equation to begin with, but that’s for another time)

There’s nothing wrong with any of these types of characters, mind you. Some of our best artists specialize in those types of women. It’s just that there’s not really a name for them that fits them specifically, or even just in general. Which brings up another possibility: The reason these women are called futanari is artists are too lazy to come up with a term on their own. As someone who has lived with messy and flaky artists, that would be the least surprising reason of all.

A Better Term: Dickgirl

Perhaps the best solution is to create a new term all together. One that encompasses not only women with dicks, but futanari, shemales, and others.

We, thankfully, already came up with a better, more straightforward term in porn: Dickgirl. It’s not SEO friendly yet, but now’s a good a time as any to work on it. The term works because of its generality and simplicity: The name implies the girl has a dick. Whether she’s a futanari or not is irrelevant. There’s no need for semantics because it answers its own primary question.

Our site style guide (yes, we have one) uses this as our catch-all term for such matters. It keeps things simple: Instead of having to figure out whether the girl with a dick also has a vagina, we just conclude at the first point and move on.

Miro recently proposed a mainstream term for it: D-Girl. Feel free to poke fun of him for it in the comments, as I doubt anyone can take a term like that seriously.

Hentai Foundry also uses the “dickgirl” term in its category system. However, they join it with “Futanari,” which only sows further confusion. We suggest they just drop “futanari” outright from their categories, and let their audience figure out themselves what they want, and understand what the original term means means.

Porn, especially 3DX, benefits from clarity. By knowing what fetishes they’re toying with, artists can actually create quality work. Moreover, by understanding what a futanari actually is, an artist has more options on what to do with her than they would before. Oh, the possibilities…

Gwyneth takes the discussion to Isobel. She’s a woman so invested in the army that your decision to help protect everyone turns her on like nothing else. But, the only thing that might distract her from her duties are those beautiful breasts of Gwyenth’s! And maybe you, if you’re a good enough soldier.

High Tide Harbor has a strict naked public bathing only rule and it’s ladies have no issues obeying. Warm, clean water slides over their skin as they relax and discuss how helpful and talented you are with your fingers.

Samira is the local supernatural influence and she’s seducing Martina to the dark side. With her store front display of sex toys and erotica, Martina can hardly look away from everything she knows she needs after a long night at the bar. Starting off with anal, spanning a double penetration and a group cumshot, this wild comic has it all. Additionally, Zuleyka spices things up with her brilliant sense of humor. Not only that, she turns a ritual ‘sacrifice’ into an arousing fuck fest worthy of a Game of Thrones orgy.

It’s a (Wo)man’s World – Possibilities of 3DX

$
0
0

Hello everyone! Welcome to another column of It’s a (Wo)man’s World! Last time we spoke about the importance of imagination and intimacy when it comes to women and erotica. I mentioned that if there is a form of realism in the story, the characters or the sex itself, it’s easier to identify with. I also stated that I can see 3DX as a mix of porn and literature. This mixture is what I would like to discuss today.

First let’s take a short look at what 3DX is and where it differs from mainstream porn or literature. After we’ve made that clear I’d like to take these differences and explain why they may or not may be reasons for women to like 3DX.

Characters and setting

3DX can come in many forms, such as image sets, comics and/or animations. It can focus on art, story or just on porn. It’s an interesting medium, because it gives room to a lot of imagination. You can make the story and characters as realistic or non-realistic as possible, and with this you can cater to a lot of different people. I think this is one of the reasons that one can say that 3DX is a mix of porn and erotica and that it can be interesting to both men and women.

One thing most 3DX products have in common is there is a lot of attention paid to setting and characters. While mainstream porn often focuses on the sex and then tries to justify it by creating some kind of story around it, a lot of 3DX products do the reverse and try to have the sex be a more integral part of a story. And I get the feeling woman would like that. Like I discussed in past columns, men get more easily aroused by just looking at a picture; meanwhile, women like to see some more activity and sensuality. Some women I talked with also pointed this out by saying that instead of just having a man and woman come out nowhere and getting it on, they’d rather also see some kind of (back)story and build-up. This development and tension creation is something that I think we can achieve with 3D sets.

This really sets the atmosphere, a beautiful elf with mysterious surroundings

This really sets the atmosphere, a beautiful elf with mysterious surroundings

Realism

Another interesting point is realism. And there are actually two different forms of realism that play a role.

1. Realistic characters

I’m not talking about the looks of characters, but I’m talking about their actions. If the sex and the way the female body moves and reacts to it looks realistic, it’s way more stimulating. It’s hard to really immerse yourself in what is going on, if you’re turned off by weird body movements or other illogical things. So this is important to take into account when creating 3D art. Someone also told me that women might like to emulate or escape into another character, which is really hard to do if she’s generic.

2. Believable settings

In porn you can strive to stay close to reality, or you can try and go for a fantasy setting. Now I think women don’t really have a preference for one or the other, as long as it brings out an atmosphere that is believable to the audience. Now in mainstream porn you can only go so far by using props and for example cosplay to be able to create some kind of fantasy world, while in literature you can write down the most fantastical things. Artists can use 3DX to create a mix of these two; it can add the visuals to a story without being held back by the limits of live-action porn. What better way than to cater to women than to combine erotic stories with images?

The artists

Another big difference is in the artists. I think that mainstream porn is often the work of big studios, while 3D porn often starts off with one person creating 3D content for fun. Of course when they want to turn it into their main source of income, they will have to start creating the art with a certain audience in mind. But I think they do have more creative freedom.

There is also a possibility for more personal contact between artist and audience, as 3D artists often have their own website and social media on which they can ask for input from their consumers. So in a way, 3D art can be more personalized and offers more room for creativity than mainstream porno. This could also create an opportunity for women to find more products that interest them. Perhaps they can even have some influence by giving some input to the artists.

read_a_book_by_ziege58-dajyqqa

Sometimes it’s just nice to escape daily life and immerse yourself in another world

Awareness

I talked about this matter before, but there is a big difference in popularity between porn, literature and 3DX. Or maybe not necessarily popularity, but awareness. From personal experience I can say that I did not know much about 3DX porn until I found Affect3D. I also talked to some other female writers working for Affect3D; and they actually had the same kind of experience as me: they did not realize how big 3DX was until their involvement with Affect3D. And none of their friends knew about it, until they mentioned it to them.

So if you take a look at popularity it seems like 3DX is kind of in an unknown area. Stereotypically speaking, visual porn is more targeted at men, literature more to women and 3DX is in a grey zone. After talking to a literature major I received a possible explanation for this. It might have to do with society:

Women could often get away with writing and reading smut close to anonymously in the eighteenth century. But men could clearly view dirty magazines without any kind of retribution. Porn didn’t evolve to cater to women, literature did. 3DX doesn’t have generations of gender stereotypes to fight, so it is a grey area. But I think men find it easier because many women haven’t been clicking link to link on the bottom of porn sites for years. So men get into it and women stay in literature.

Conclusion

I think what we can conclude from all of the above, is that there are actually quite some ways in which 3DX could cater to women. It’s an interesting media, because it gives room to a lot of imagination. There is the possibility to make characters and setting as realistic or non-realistic as possible. In addition, there’s room to add in a story. I think this is one of the reasons that one can say that 3DX is a mix of porn and erotica and that it can be interesting to both men and women.

However I think there is one main problem, and that is awareness. Like mentioned above, 3DX is not that well-known. Not many women know it, so not many women watch it. Therefore, there is less female feedback and output. And as a result most 3DX sets are probably marketed more towards men. Although there are exceptions of course.

Let’s Play High Tide Harbor!

Here it is! We have the High Tide Harbor gameplay video for you guys, and it’s quite a ride! Our video editor Kyle has taken the time to sit down and play through the demo, giving you an impression of what it’s all about. There’s a lot of gameplay and a lot of laughs! And it ends on quite a uhm… high note, shall we say.

In many ways, High Tide Harbor follows the format of a lot of point-and-click adult games you’re familiar with. But the creators injected it with a healthy dose of humor (sometimes as intentional as not). Having watched the video myself, it seems to me that if you’re after something that’s as entertaining as it is arousing you might’ve hit the jackpot! So sit back and follow Kyle into this crazy world full of big-titted dames; and help them give an answer to the pressing question of the day: what is an ideal sex toy? Can Kyle solve this great mystery? Or does he end up having to fall back on the natural gifts bestowed on males to give these women what they need?

Indeed, the stakes are high as the tide in this harbor. Enjoy!

She grabs his cock and begins to give him a blowjob. When he has finished she gets up to present her pussy to him. He isn’t able to resist and proceeds to thrust his cock inside of her from behind. She gets on her knees once more and then a familiar face appears once more…..

Guest Column: Why performers – and so many others – oppose Proposition 60

Since it was first announced, adult performers have opposed Proposition 60. It gives unprecedented power to its sole proponent, Michael Weinstein, not only over performers’ bodies, but above state regulatory agencies and public health departments.

bj_without_condom_prop60

A blow job and sexual intercourse without a condom could soon be illegal in porn in California, USA!

Performers are well acquainted with Weinstein. Over the past seven years, he’s filed hundred of complaints against us based on the types of movies we make. He’s tied us up in costly litigation and regulatory nightmares, all against our will – all, supposedly, in the interest of saving us.

Now, with Proposition 60, he hopes to give 38 million residents of California the power to do the same. Prop. 60 would give each state resident the power to sue us if they should see an adult film without a visible condom. It’s an outrageous violation that would open us to stalkers, harassers, anti-porn activists and, maybe most disturbingly, profiteers. (The proposition includes a large cash bounty to anyone successfully bringing a suit, then forces us to pay our harassers’ legal fees.)

The way the proposition is written, anyone with a “financial interest” in the film is open to these suits. This includes the vast majority of performers, since, in addition to shooting for larger companies, we regularly create our own content, perform on our own webcams, and run our own websites. When we do shoot for larger studios, we profit-share through affiliate links. Aside from the probable harassment, the litigation costs would likely bankrupt us.

The Prop. 60 campaign has called us lawbreakers, and says we’d be better off moving out of state. They refer to Cal/OSHA regulations written for hospital emergency rooms, not adult sets. For the first time in history, Cal/OSHA is working with performers to write regulations specific to our industry – incorporating not only condoms, but testing, and other safety guards. Prop. 60 would supersede all of that.

Weinstein claims that he’s speaking for performers, but he’s consistently refused to meet with us. We at the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, the large performers’ rights organization, has repeatedly asked him to meet, and we have repeatedly been ignored. How you can attempt to regulate workforce without involving the workers is beyond me.

Perhaps that’s why the California Democratic and Republican and Libertarian Parties have all opposed Prop. 60, as have the editorial boards of the state’s seven largest papers (including this one), as well as countless public health organizations, civil rights advocates, legislators and political clubs.

Proposition 60 is a ridiculous initiative that would drive a legal, safe industry underground and out-of-state, where performers would have fewer protections. It would dismantle hard-fought safety protocols developed between doctors and performers – protocols that have prevented HIV from being transmitted on a regulated set for more than a decade.

Most unfortunately, it would give Michael Weinstein, a man with a penchant for scare tactics, bad data and lawsuits, unrestricted access to state resources to carry out a dangerous, personal crusade.

I, and thousands of performers like me, ask that you vote no on Prop. 60.

We’ve returned with more eye-candy, courtesy of 3DX Games and Gazukull. High Tide Harbor is the latest lovechild of the two creative entities, and is due for release tomorrow at the Affect3D Store! Their starting roster of 6 beautiful babes come fit for all fetishes. I’m here to give you all a look into the world they’ve constructed to sate your desires.

This first scene features Martina the Tavern Girl, Jessenia the Pirate Queen and Samira the Shopkeeper, baring all for you to see. Standing literally abreast, these women clearly have a lot to offer. The poster shows how the game progresses from the tame to the wild as the demure model of Martina is juxtaposed next to the fiery-eyed vampire and then finally a full fledged succubi complete with horns and tail for those of us who like our women with some extra oomph!

If that weren’t enough, we feature Samira again here next to her wares. The shelves are full of her toys but it makes us wonders if those tomes are all actually several variants of the Kama Sutra? There’s just no end to the kinky ideas we get in our minds watching her flaunt her tight leather getup.

Now back in the Inn again, this time our Jessenia is fully clothed, or at least as clothed as they get in High Tide Harbor. Her generous tits stand firm above her toned abs as she invites us into her establishment with a smile. However, those wild eye’s beckon us to give in to darker desires than just the usual mug of ale.

Then finally a look at the Pirate Queen, Jessenia herself. Clad in a sexy getup and perky nipples much different from her reveal in the teaser trailer. Additionally we see her enjoying a performance from Samira who pleasures herself for her majesty’s (and our) viewing pleasure. All of these pictures really show the care that went into designing the scenarios. Staying true to the setting while also providing the maximum erotic effect is quite the noteworthy achievement.

Furthermore, 3DX Game’s expertise with posing and Gazukull’s top notch artistic prowess help bring together this masterpiece. Get hyped for further news and contest winners!
